1. Expression used in formal invitation usually has formal, uncommon words with longer sentences. Example:
  In informal invitation for a party, you'd just say, 'Come to my birthday party, dudes. There'll be free loads of drink and food.'
 In formal one, you'd have to say. 'You are cordially invited to the ball (instead of using the word 'party') of Sir Arthur Mason at the Coulton Mansion. Special refreshments (instead of food and drinks) are available.'
2. The difference between formal and informal letters are
  - the beginning:
    formal letters starts with the reason why you write the letter . e.g:
    'I am writing to inquire about the information on....'  
    Informal letters starts with greetings and asking about how is the receiver.
   - the diction / choice of words, in which the formal and uncommon ones are used in the formal one and likewise in informal one.
3. part of formal one that shows the difference is
    - the usage of complete written form in sentence, no shortened form such as I'm, she's, they'll. Instead, the ' I am, She is and They will' are used.
    - the absence of phrasal verbs in it such as: go out, get down etc.
    - the usage of frequent passive voice in the formal one.
4. The RSVP in the invitation, if stated, means that the one who are invited are expected to reply and inform that he/she is confirmed to be able to come. So, such is the function.
